Keyboard Short cuts…

Getting used to using your keyboard exclusively and leaving your mouse behind will make you much more efficient at performing any task on any Windows system. I use the following keyboard shortcuts every day:

“Now, the photos you share on Facebook are bigger (720 pixels to 960 pixels) and load twice as fast, giving you quicker access to more detailed images,” Facebook’s Justin Shaffer said in a blog post. “Photos you’ve already uploaded to your profile will also be displayed at this higher resolution.”

In addition to the increased photo size, Facebook is rolling out a revamped photo viewer. The new viewer takes up more screen real estate (since photos are now larger) and reduces clutter so users can focus on the photo and nothing else.

“The light box is now set against a simple white background that puts more of the focus on the photo, and less on the surrounding frame,” Shaffer noted.

Facebook rolled out its revamped Photos interface in February with the lightbox UI and support for hi-res photos.

The Taiwanese manufacturer will launch an official tie-up with Mark Zuckerberg’s $50bn (£31.6bn) social network at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona.

The high-end smartphones will be the first to bear the Facebook branding and colours. It could look similar to the mock-up pictured right, also created by HTC.

It is understood the phones will run on a tweaked version of Google’s Android operating system and will prominently display users’ Facebook messages and news feed on the home screen.

Other areas of integration expected include being able to call or email friends from information stored on their Facebook page.

Facebook has aggressively pushed mobile versions of its social network and industry insiders see this as an attempt to consolidate its position as the world’s leading social network.

Facebook’s Joe Hewitt (who worked on the Firefox web browser) and Matthew Papakipos (a leading member of the Google Chrome browser team) are thought to be behind the launch.

I conduct pretty much all of my business online. I use a dozen different web applications on a daily basis. I rely on these tools to get my work done, which makes it absolutely crucial that I do everything I can to protect my information. I do my best to find trustworthy applications, but in the end, some of my security comes down to something I do for myself — choosing good passwords.

A good password has to balance security with our ability to remember it, because minimizing the number of places that a password is written down or otherwise recorded is a good idea. It’s a tough line — the most memorable passwords are the easiest to crack, while the most secure are a jumble of characters that are impossible to recall. But there are some steps you can take to create a reasonably secure password that you’re less likely to forget.

1. Forget about amusing passwords. Among the most common passwords are those that seem to amuse the person creating them — there are plenty that use profanity or insults. Some sites, such as Twitter, have actually created lists of words that are banned from use as passwords. A surprising number of them fall into this category. Passwords such as these aren’t secure, if only because they’re relatively common and more likely to be tried first if someone is trying to crack your password.

2. Try longer phrases. Most of us have an easier time remember actual words and phrases than random assortments of letters and numbers. Using just one word, perhaps with a number tacked on to the end, is often less secure, however — certain methods of hacking passwords include simply running a dictionary through the password system. Using a longer phrase — especially if it includes numbers or other characters — makes it significantly harder to guess.

3. Use a minimum of eight characters. Longer passwords are better. Most sites require you to have at least six characters in your password these days. Some are moving up to eight, but if you can go for longer, you should. That’s another benefit of using a phrase.

4. Choose related, but not identical, passwords. You want to minimize the chances you’ll forget a password, but using identical passwords means that if one of your accounts hacked into, you’ll run the risk of having other accounts hacked as well. One option may be choosing phrases about the same topic, while another is changing key parts of your password to reflect the site you’re using it for.

5. Don’t use personal details. In the event that someone is hoping to gain access to your personal accounts, details like your phone number, employment details and important dates in your life will be among the first passwords typically tried. Instead, you want to use something that may have personal meaning for you — at least enough to help you remember it — but that won’t be easy for anyone else to guess.

Google Operating System reports that Google is testing a feature for signing in using multiple accounts.

While the post itself has a screenshot (which you can see above), it does not include any instructions on how to enable this functionality. This is obviously a limited or closed-beta test; the question is just how limited it is.

This functionality is not just “useful” – it is often vital. I have one account tied into an AdWords account, another account tied into Analytics, and yet a third Apps account. Merging them is impossible, especially as long as Google Apps doesn’t support Reader. Having a way to sign into all three at the same time from the same browser would certainly make things less irritating.

As we all know yesterday Steve Jobs stepped down as a CEO of Apple smartphones company, but Today it looks like that Steve Jobs will be responsible for steering Apple as a company during its most successful years, and he brought us products like the original Mackintosh, iPod, iPhone and iPad.



 

He’s also the man that singlehandedly uprooted the music industry with iTunes and digital downloads, and he’s about to take cloud services to a whole other level with iCloud this Fall.

Everyone has wanted this redesigned iPhone 5 and it was expected to be announced in Apple’s Let’s Talk iPhone event but it didn’t do that. Instead, Apple announced the iPhone 4S with so many features and it’s already on its way to be the fastest selling gadget ever.



Just before the Let’s Talk iPhone event, a case manufacturer produced 500,000 cases for that redesigned iPhone 5. So what happened? Are those case manufacturers fools?

Well, 9to5mac has posted some thoughts about what has really happened to the iPhone 5:

The iPhone 4S as you see it was originally planned to be released at WWDC with iOS 5, like every iPhone before it [...] But something happened around February of this year that threw everything off. Apple was still integrating the Siri team and code into iOS and it was going much slower than planned. At the same time, Apple’s iPhone 5 (teardrop) plans were moving along on or ahead of schedule and the first prototypes were testing well. With mid-October being the earliest possible date of a Siri-fied iOS being ready – with “Apple-levels” of polish –Apple had to look at its options.

The site expects the iPhone 5 to be available in Summer 2012, may be during WWDC 2012. We’ll still be there waiting for that last project from Steve Jobs, CNET said.
