The sources said that the new iPad will be the same size as the iPad 2 and it’s still not clear if the iPad 3 will feature higher resolution display.

The release date suggested in March is due to the Chinese New Year on Jan. 23 and national holidays from Jan. 22 to 28 so it would be unusual rush schedule.

About the new Dock, Macotakara says:

New iPad seems to have re-designed dock connector. Dock’s 30-pins and electricity specification will not be changed, but shape will be more smaller than current “iPad dock connector”, which has released April 2003. New Dock connector design will bring compatibility problem with current dock connecting products.

Highest September Quarter Revenue and Earnings Ever

CUPERTINO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Apple® today announced financial results for its fiscal 2011 fourth quarter ended September 24, 2011. The Company posted quarterly revenue of $28.27 billion and quarterly net profit of $6.62 billion, or $7.05 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $20.34 billion and net quarterly profit of $4.31 billion, or $4.64 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 40.3 percent compared to 36.9 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 63 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

“Customer response to iPhone 4S has been fantastic, we have strong momentum going into the holiday season, and we remain really enthusiastic about our product pipeline.”

The Company sold 17.07 million iPhones in the quarter, representing 21 percent unit growth over the year-ago quarter. Apple sold 11.12 million iPads during the quarter, a 166 percent unit increase over the year-ago quarter. The Company sold 4.89 million Macs during the quarter, a 26 percent unit increase over the year-ago quarter. Apple sold 6.62 million iPods, a 27 percent unit decline from the year-ago quarter.

“We are thrilled with the very strong finish of an outstanding fiscal 2011, growing annual revenue to $108 billion and growing earnings to $26 billion,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “Customer response to iPhone 4S has been fantastic, we have strong momentum going into the holiday season, and we remain really enthusiastic about our product pipeline.”

Google Chrome has been my default browser for quite some time, but I’ve got to admit… I like what I’m seeing so far in Firefox 4, and the tweaks just keep on coming. One recent addition which has been talked about for some time is the option to create App Tabs.

Firefox 4′s App Tabs look pretty much like a pinned tab in Google Chrome. For now, an App Tab appears to simply force a tab to the left and display it with the favicon only. It’s a great way to save additional space on your tab bar, and a feature I use religiously in Chrome.

Right now, you’ll only find App Tabs in the Mozilla nightly builds of Firefox 4 — which you can download here for Windows, Mac, and Linux. To create an App Tab, just right click and select the option from the context menu.

Facebook’s Donn Lee has been getting the social network ready for this first worldwide test flight of IPv6 since last fall when plans for the June 8 event were put in place. Wednesday is the day that the giants of the Internet – Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Verizon and Facebook – will give IPv6 a whirl and see how it works.

Lee, who came up with the idea for World IPv6 Day with Google network engineer Lorenzo Colitti, said he’s confident all will go well and he’s not expecting any surprises.

“I’m completely excited,” Lee told Computerworld. “It’s grown into a life of its own from our initial idea that we had in the hallways of a conference last summer. Seeing all the excitement and energy around this day is immensely rewarding. This is when the Internet enters into the next stage of its expansion.”

IPv4 is the Internet’s main communications protocol, but it is quickly running out of unique IP addresses for all the computers, smartphones and other devices that need to be hooked up to the Internet. Hence, the development of an upgrade — IPv6, which is said to provide more than 4 billion times more addresses than IPv4.

Some people worry that migrating to IPv6 will be time consuming and expensive. World IPv6 Day is designed to test IPv6 and see how well it works. Internet users on Wednesday can think of themselves as test pilots.

Participating companies will flip the switch at 8 p.m. EDT Tuesday.

“This is going to be like opening night,” Lee said. “It’s a 24-hour test. We’ll turn it off after 24 hours. Most participants will… We think we’ve covered all our bases.”

He added that the participants have been going through “dress rehearsals” and he’s confident that most Facebook users won’t see any difference in the site’s performance Wednesday.

“We’ve already done some very comprehensive tests and simulations here and we have not had any effects to Facebook users,” Lee said. “We’ve tested users to see what their IPv6 and IPV4 connectivity is. We’ve been collecting data for many months. We pretty sure that our data is sound.”

Lee, who previously worked at Google and Cisco Systems, said a handful of Facebook engineers have been working on updating the company’s network so they can run a dual stack, which means running both IPv4 and IPv6 at the same time.

The site will check a user’s system and if it supports IPv6, it will use IPv6 for the first time. Most people don’t have IPv6 and will fall back to IPV4.

Lee figures that 0.2% of Facebook’s more than 500 million users are capable of using IPv6 at home or at work. That’s 1 million users.

He also contends that 99.97% of users will see no difference whatsoever. The other 0.03% can probably expect some slowdowns because of bugs either in their own systems or on the larger networks.

For Facebook, getting ready for Wednesday’s test has been in the works for months.

Lee said most of their efforts were focused on the company’s software, specifically, making code changes. “Most of our costs were having software engineers go through our code,” he added. “Where it expected a legacy address to now expect and support an IPv6 address.”

He said he didn’t know how much the migration cost Facebook.

The Internet is our business,” Lee added. “As far as we can tell, the future of the Internet is important not just to us but to all Internet companies. There aren’t really good solutions when you run out of addresses. I believe that IPv6 is the answer to the future of the Internet.”

Phone 4S pre-orders started a week ago from now and everyone (who pre-ordered the iPhone 4S on this day) should be getting his new handset shipped today.

We have already seen the iPhone 4S shipping for some customers in China, Germany and the U.S. too. The iPhone 4S showed great performance against the Samsung Galaxy S II and all smartphones in the world.

Google Wave is an online web app, and unlike many Google services, it’s not easily integrated with standard desktop applications. Instead, you’ll have to keep it open in a browser tab, and since it is one of the most intensive HTML5 webapps available today, you may notice slowdowns in many popular browsers. Plus, it can be hard to stay on top of your Wave conversations and collaborations by just switching back and forth between the website and whatever else you’re working on. Here we’ll look at some tools that can help you integrate Google Wave with your workflow, and make it feel more native in Windows.

Use Google Wave Directly in Windows

What’s one of the best ways to make a web app feel like a native application? By making it into a native application, of course! Waver is a free Air powered app that can make the mobile version of Google Wave feel at home on your Windows, Mac, or Linux desktop. We found it to be a quick and easy way to keep on top of our waves and collaborate with our friends.

To get started with Waver, open their homepage on the Adobe Air Marketplace (link below) and click Download From Publisher.

Waver is powered by Adobe Air, so if you don’t have Adobe Air installed, you’ll need to first download and install it.

After clicking the link above, Adobe Air will open a prompt asking what you wish to do with the file. Click Open, and then install as normal.

Once the installation is finished, enter your Google Account info in the window.

After a few moments, you’ll see your Wave account in miniature, running directly in Waver. Click a Wave to view it, or click New wave to start a new Wave message. Unfortunately, in our tests the search box didn’t seem to work, but everything else worked fine.

You can still view content from plugins, including YouTube videos, directly in Waver.

Get Wave Notifications From Your Windows Taskbar

Most popular email and Twitter clients give you notifications from your system tray when new messages come in. And with Google Wave Notifier, you can now get the same alerts when you receive a new Wave message.

Head over to the Google Wave Notifier site (link below), and click the download link to get started. Make sure to download the latest Binary zip, as this one will contain the Windows program rather than the source code.

Unzip the folder, and then run GoogleWaveNotifier.exe.

On first run, you can enter your Google Account information. Notice that this is not a standard account login window; you’ll need to enter your email address in the Username field, and then your password below it.

You can also change other settings from this dialog, including update frequency and whether or not to run at startup. Click the value, and then select the setting you want from the dropdown menu.

Now, you’ll have a new Wave icon in your system tray. When it detects new Waves or unread updates, it will display a popup notification with details about the unread Waves. Additionally, the icon will change to show the number of unread Waves. Click the popup to open Wave in your browser. Or, if you have Waver installed, simply open the Waver window to view your latest Waves.

If you ever need to change settings again in the future, right-click the icon and select Settings, and then edit as above.

Get Wave Notifications in Your Email

Most of us have Outlook or Gmail open all day, and seldom leave the house without a Smartphone with push email. And thanks to a new Wave feature, you can still keep up with your Waves without having to change your workflow.

To activate email notifications from Google Wave, login to your Wave account, click the arrow beside your Inbox, and select Notifications.

Select how quickly you want to receive notifications, and choose which email address you wish to receive the notifications. Click Save when you’re finished.

Now you’ll receive an email with information about new and updated Waves in your account. If there were only small changes, you may get enough info directly in the email; otherwise, you can click the link and open that Wave in your browser.
