Excerpt: Facebook announced a revamp of its user privacy controls, responding to widespread public criticism following its f8 conference product launches with systematic changes that it said came out of weeks of nights-and-weekend work by its top engineers and designers. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg called the release a “modern privacy system” that reflects what the site has become and incorporates feedback from users. “We made a lot of changes at the same time, and a lot of what we were trying to do we didn’t communicate that well,” said Zuckerberg. He acknowledged users felt there were so many controls that they were[More]

Excerpt: Rumor has it that Apple is gearing up to announce its “Next big thing” – a new personalized, mobile advertising system that could well be dubbed as the “iAd”. The buzz is building coincidently, or may be by design, towards the iPad shipment date, which is April 3rd. According to some executives familiar with the plan, Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs has described the new ad platform as “revolutionary” and “our next big thing”. The sources also informed that it will be officially unveiled at Madison Avenue on April 7th – exactly four days after iPad ships. MediaPost News claims that Apple[More]

Apple’s long term carrier parter AT&T has announced that they have processed 200,000 pre orders for the iPhone 4S, making the new Apple smartphone the most successfully launched iPhone yet. These 200,000 orders only come during the first 12 hours of sales, which started around midnight. Notably, these are just AT&T’s numbers and don’t include Apple’s own online pre-orders or the orders through Apple’s other U.S. carrier partners, Verizon Wireless and Sprint. AT&T has seen extraordinary demand for iPhone 4S with more than 200,000 preorders in the first 12 hours alone, the most successful iPhone launch we’ve ever had. It’s[More]

Excerpt: Twitter quietly added a prompt to post a public reply to any user whose profile page you visit today; it’s a small but logical step to take and one that makes the interface all the more supportive of social interaction. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey replied to user @jSammy17 and said the feature was new today – that appears to be the company’s only public statement about it so far. Activity streams, photo uploaders and media galleries, now changes to the posting interface – with all these changes made in one week you’d think there was a hot new social network that[More]
The popular hackers group Anonymous has issued the second statement regarding FBI arrests and PayPal’s decision to block donations to WikiLeaks. They ask users to ditch PayPal and close their account. In other words, BOYCOTT PayPal.
We encourage anyone using PayPal to immediately close their accounts and consider an alternative. [...] PayPal’s willingness to fold to legislation should be proof enough that they don’t deserve the customers they get. They do not deserve your business, and they do not deserve your respect.
So, will you really respond to Anonymous group? Is there a real alternative for Paypal? Let us know! (via RedmondPie)

Excerpt: Google Chrome has been my default browser for quite some time, but I’ve got to admit… I like what I’m seeing so far in Firefox 4, and the tweaks just keep on coming. One recent addition which has been talked about for some time is the option to create App Tabs. Firefox 4′s App Tabs look pretty much like a pinned tab in Google Chrome. For now, an App Tab appears to simply force a tab to the left and display it with the favicon only. It’s a great way to save additional space on your tab bar, and a feature[More]

Excerpt: Google has added a neat new Labs feature to Gmail that shifts the position of the icon column in your inbox to the left-hand side of the screen. The icon column is used to indicate emails with attachments, calendar invitations, chats and Buzz posts, but normally sits out of your eyeline on the right-hand side. Shifting it to the left gives the icons more prominence, and means that it’s easier to determine what’s in your inbox at a glance. To enable this feature, head to Labs (via the little green flask icon next to your email address at the top right),[More]
