Excerpt: Google has added a neat new Labs feature to Gmail that shifts the position of the icon column in your inbox to the left-hand side of the screen. The icon column is used to indicate emails with attachments, calendar invitations, chats and Buzz posts, but normally sits out of your eyeline on the right-hand side. Shifting it to the left gives the icons more prominence, and means that it’s easier to determine what’s in your inbox at a glance.
